The science

Compassion-based approaches lead to measurable psychological change

One of the strongest pieces of evidence behind this approach comes from a large meta-analysis examining the impact of compassion-based interventions across clinical populations.

The analysis reviewed 21 randomised controlled trials, covering over 1,200 participants, and found consistent improvements across multiple psychological outcomes following compassion-based interventions.
These weren’t small or isolated effects. Reductions in anxiety, depression, and shame were observed across studies, alongside increases in emotional resilience and self-soothing capacity.
What’s particularly important is how this change happened. Outcomes improved not by increasing pressure or control, but by changing the way individuals related to their internal experience — shifting from criticism and avoidance toward understanding and support.
